Whether you have just bought your puppy home, or you have an older dog, having a well trained dog allows you to be more relaxed with your pet. This in turn makes the time you spend with him more fun for you both. The best time to start training a puppy is the day you get him home. Dogs are easier to train within the first 6 months of their lives. They are like sponges and eager to learn. Unfortunately there is never an end to training, just like with humans there is always a something new. The good news is that once your dog is controlled by you, the regular training does not take up too much time, and is almost like a refresher course for your dog.Imagine that feeling of being in control when you are out on a walk. Imagine you can take him for a walk, instead of the other way round!Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I have been around dogs most of my life. I have been involved in training my own dogs and I currently walk dogs for a living. During my time working with animals I have found the techniques which really work when training dogs (it actually also works, to a degree, with cats, but that is another story). If you are interested in learning to train your dog so that he sees you as the PackLeader, he will be much more biddable. Therefore my training technique is based on training you on how to train your dog. Afterall, you will be the one issuing the commands, so it makes sense that he sees you as the top dog in your little pack. This means that once you have learnt how to control your dog, you can continue the training - and spend as much time as you want - to get to the level of control you want. All of my training is done on a one-to-one basis. Distractions like other dogs and owners are for much later (once you have established your position as leader). This is why I do not believe that puppy training classes actually help you with training. Socialisation, yes - training, unfortunately no. I come to your home, so that your dog starts off in comfortable surroundings, and later we will take the training out onto your walks. Training is not something which can be done whilst you are out at work. All you would end up with is a dog who does as I tell him, but doesn't react in the same way to you! A rather expensive way for your dog to be controllable by someone else. There really is no getting around the fact that you will have to spend the time on training, if you want your dog to do as you command. For a no obligation chat about how I can help with training in general, or if you have specific issues you want to address, please give me a call. My charges start at £20 per hour, and I will always carry out an initial, free, face to face consultation with you and your dog before you commit to starting a course of training for your dog. That way you get a chance to meet me and check that I can do what I say I can, and I can see what needs to be done with you and your dog(s) and advise on a training regime that should work and give you a realistic assessment of cost. Please call me on 01767 627499 or 07005 981549 (mobile call rates) for a chat. |
